The Mismade bill (AKA “mis-made” or “inside-out” bill) idea was described by P. Howard Lyons in magic magazine Ibidem in the 1950s, and in the 1970s Harry Anderson devised his own routine using a torn quartered bill (published in the book Wise Guy in 1993). James Lewis came up which became known as “The Inside-out Bill” and “The MisMade Dollar Bill.”

Switch: Unfolding The $100 Bill Change by John Lovick, is a fantastic resource delving into the history of paper money magic and detailing over 60 routines/effects/sleights/etc., including ones utilizing a mismade bill.
